International School of Ulaanbataar

The International School of Ulaanbaatar (ISU) opened in 1992 as a private, non-profit, secular, co-educational school. There is now an enrollment of more than 200 students from 30 different countries, preschool to grade 12. The highly qualified faculty has been recruited from all parts of the world.

The International School of Ulaanbaatar (ISU) began operation in September 1992 to meet the educational needs of Mongolia's growing international community. Permission to open the school was granted by the Mongolian Ministry of Education in May 1992. The Ministry has fully participated in the development of the school. In December 1997, the International School of Ulaanbaatar was certified by the Mongolian Ministry of Education. After several years of leasing rooms at the Russian Cultural Centre, the School moved to the current school building, the Old Star Hotel, in November 2002.

The school has received support from the international community in Ulaanbaatar, including embassies, various United Nations agencies, and the Peace Corps. Links have been established with the other international schools. ISU is one of the founding school's involved in establishing the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). It is also an associate member of the European council of International Schools (ECIS) and East Asian Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS). The school is assisted by the office of overseas schools of the US Department of State. The ISU has school-to-school partnership with Alexandria City Public Schools in Virginia, USA.
